Does It Really Matter How Much People Like You?
You don’t need to “like” Facebook, but there is something more important that you should be able answer. How likeable are your real-life friends? It’s easy to dismiss this question and think it doesn’t matter. But, you would be wrong. Your career is controlled by people you like. Are they a fan of you?
What is likeability?
It’s likely that likeability issues were something that most of us thought about when we were in high school. These issues are still relevant, and can have a significant impact on how we progress in our careers. How likable and approachable you are will have an impact on the way your manager and coworkers see you.
Social media is one way to measure your workplace likability. Many companies now offer social networking and chat services in-house. Your management may be keeping an eye on these services to see if you are likable. There is a good chance they will find that you have many contacts who are open to listening to you. Your social network standing may have an impact on how you are promoted at some firms.
When it comes to controlling your likeability, video can be a problem. It’s more difficult to do. This is why we are increasingly using video conferencing at work. Studies show that people who watch someone on video are more affected by their feelings about the person they are watching than what they hear. Video can make us feel stiff and unfeeling, which can negatively impact our ability to like others.
How can you increase your likeability?
We can all agree that likingability is an important aspect of our careers. Now we need to answer the question: How do we get IT manager training to improve our likeability? It’s not something we are born with. It’s something we all have learned. It’s something that we all can learn with practice.

There are three main “big” habits that can help you improve your likeability. First, make sure you make eye contact with everyone you’re talking to. This shows you care about them and you don’t have anything to hide. Next, smile naturally while you speak. People will naturally smile at you if you smile. They will also be more likely to smile back at your face, making you appear more human. Vary the tone of what you say when speaking. This will allow you to communicate warmth and enthusiasm about the topic being discussed. This will make you more approachable.
What Does All This Mean for You?
Amazingly, even in the age of smartphones and tablets, it doesn’t matter how many IT team building projects you have. Your ability to like other people is still important. Before they will do anything for or promote you, the people who work with you must like you. You need to be able to explain how likeability works.
It is better to be liked. Research has shown that people who are likeable are more likely to be hired, receive help from others at work, forgive mistakes, and get useful information from others. Employers can use your popularity in social media to gauge your likeability. To be more likeable, you need to concentrate on the three main behaviors that promote likeability: smiling, eye contact, and changing your voice.
It isn’t something we were born with. It is something that all of us can learn. It means that we can all learn to be more likeable to others if we put our efforts into it. You’ll find that your life is easier if you take the time to be more likeable.
