You are an IT manager, and you know it. Your company is able to rely on you for valuable services. If you weren’t there, they would miss you and your IT management skills. But, this thought has a flip side – it is possible that you may not be needed anymore, and nobody would notice.

There are many interesting observations made at firms without IT managers. It is possible to run a small business without IT managers. People will pitch in when needed and helpful. As the company grows, however, problems begin to appear. These problems can manifest as a lack of completion on projects or confusion among workers about what they should do.

Productivity is a crucial indicator of a company’s success. This can quickly lead to a decrease in productivity if there are no IT managers. To coordinate multiple projects, middle managers are necessary. Workers also require supervision. Supervisors are praised for doing good work and criticized when it doesn’t happen.

It is essential to have IT managers

Talking to workers who aren’t being managed by IT managers will quickly reveal that they don’t have any motivation to work hard. It is not their fault. Workers can soon get the impression that they are not expected to do too much and don’t have enough to deliver. IT team building is what’s missing.

Many companies aren’t thinking hard about where their employees will find answers to their questions if they don’t have an IT manager to turn to. The problem is that employees are constantly asking questions about small matters like company expense policies. Senior management is the only person who can answer them. This results in old management spending too much time dealing with minor issues that should have been dealt with by their bosses.

What Does All This Mean for You?

It is true; you’ll see more stories in the newspapers and online about companies who are trying new organizational approaches that eliminate IT, managers. This trend is prevalent and gets a lot of attention. But is this the right thing to do for companies?

It turns out that IT managers are not necessary for firms with small IT departments. The more complex the company, the more IT managers are needed. IT managers are more critical in larger firms than ever before. They help workers to understand what is expected of them and ensure that projects are completed on time. It becomes challenging to make decisions, and even though long meetings are held that are attended only by those who should not, plans are not being implemented or made.

It seems that everyone needs someone to guide them. These IT managers are being fired by these companies because they have a bad reputation for slowing down innovation and hindering progress. IT managers are essential for companies to run faster and more efficiently.
