Of all the IT manager competencies we have, which is the most crucial? If we’re in an IT management training class, it could appear that the ability to budget, perform reviews, and goal-setting are among the top essential capabilities. But, it turns out that they’re not. The ability to tell a compelling story is what separates not-so-great IT managers from genuinely excellent ones.

The Moment Of Realization

If you’re like me, you’ve had times when you’ve not succeeded. Whatever the situation, whether you were in conversation with your colleagues, an additional department, or your manager, you were unable to achieve what you wanted to accomplish. You might have tried to convince them to do something or get them to take a step, but you failed to accomplish it. Compare this with the instances where you’ve succeeded, and what you’ll find is that, more times than not, the reason you did the trick was that you told a well-crafted narrative to your viewers.
